IS EVERYONE DREAMING? HOW ARE THEY TOGETHER?It's all very much a mystery that no one knows the answer to; while it certainly does seem to be a dream (and many characters have the same feeling that they would have if lucid dreaming, knowing it isn't real but being unable to wake up) no one can be sure. As it stands, no one has been able to leave this world once they arrived. Some believe that everyone they meet is another figment of their dream, some believe it's something like a "community dream". It really depends on who you ask.
HOW AND WHEN DID EVERYONE START ARRIVING?Arrivals are typically rather hazy; many find it difficult to remember exactly when they arrived, or what led them to where they are today in their first few weeks. As for when, it's safe to say Rinel has been growing steadily for nearly a year, though there are plenty who arrived much more recently.
WHAT KIND OF SPIRITS ARE IN THE WILDS?The Wilds and the spirits that inhabit it were heavily influenced by the spirit world of Avatar: the Last Airbender. If you've never seen it, don't worry. Suffice to say the spirits are embodiments or protectors of many things; for example, there is a guardian spirit who keeps watch over the oasis. There are also spirits of the moon and ocean, of the sun, of light and darkness -- spirits that are known to steal faces. They come in countless shapes, sizes, and forms: some look humanoid or animal-like, some look completely alien, and some lack much of a corporeal form at all. There are dark and light spirits; some will help and some will hinder. It's safe to use your imagination a bit when dealing with spirits, but if you have any questions feel free to ask!
CAN YOU LEAVE THE CITY/THE WILDS?You can leave Rinel, but only to go into the Wilds. Once there, you have quite a ways before you run out of land to travel, but once you get to a certain point (in the Wilds it's usually the beach, a ways out into the water) you'll hit a block. It's almost like a force field, but whatever it is, there's no getting past it.
CAN I MAKE AN ORIGINAL CHARACTER?Since the animation platform offers such a wide variety of diverse and interesting characters to play from, at this time we will not be accepting original characters.
ALTERNATE VERSIONS OF CHARACTERS?There are several series in which alternate versions of characters exist, such as Fullmetal Alchemist, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, etc. In the instance that you would like to apply for a character from an "alternate" version of source canon (ie Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist vs Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood), then we ask that you come to a staff member so we can discuss whether or not these alternate versions of characters can coexist with one another. We will say that we generally prefer source material over branch offs, but there are exceptions to every rule! Of course, cases in which a member is unsure of what exactly "source canon" consists of can be brought to the staff for further clarification. Additionally, we're putting a ban on all alternate versions of DC/Marvel comic characters. This means that we'd prefer you apply as Bruce Wayne from the comics vs. Bruce Wayne from Batman: The Animated Series, and Steve Rogers from the comics vs. Steve Rogers from Avenger's: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
ARE CANON CREATURES / ANIMALS ALLOWED?Creatures from your character's canon verse (ex: Pokemon, Digimon, How to Train Your Dragon) are allowed on the site! Though please make sure you apply moderation to these things. For example, we suggest that pokemon trainers have only a single team of pokemon with them on the site. Train responsibly!
CAN I KILL OFF MY CHARACTER?As BBL takes place in a dream world of sorts, characters can be killed off at any time. They don't remain dead for very long -- they'll pop back up somewhere in the city from anywhere within an hour to a few days -- it's up to you! Their dead bodies may either disappear to never be found, re-animate, or lay around like they normally would; there's really no rhyme or reason to it. So yes! You can kill off your character. Go for it.
Knowledge surrounding this death/rebirth process isn't widely spread. The council members are informed upon being accepted, and characters who kill frequently/have been killed definitely know, but the general population -- barring a few exceptions -- is unaware. As this is a dream world, people are usually unconcerned with things that don't directly involve them -- there's a layer of separation. But as Rinel grows, and more and more people die and come back to life, then surely the population will begin to take notice.
WILL ANYTHING BE DIFFERENT WHEN MY CHARACTER COMES BACK TO LIFE?In BBL canon: Yes! Your character will have fresh scars detailing how they died. For example, if your character was stabbed in the chest, they'll wake up with a fresh scar where they were stabbed, if your character got beheaded, they'd wake up with a scar around their neck, etc. How prominent/visible these scars are is up to the player, but there will be some amount of scarring in every case. Your character might also have trouble remembering how exactly they died in BBL canon. If they do remember, the details will be fuzzy, kind of like a dream.
If they died in their own verse: Your character might have some scarring (like they would if they had survived -- scar around the neck for a beheading, chest scar for a chest stabbing, etc), but we're leaving it up to the players!
DO WE KEEP OUR CHARACTER'S POWERS AND ABILITIES?Characters still have all of their canon powers and abilities. We're giving the benefit of the doubt that characters noted for their extreme amounts of power (ex: Gilgamesh from Fate/Zero, Mikoto from K Project) will use all of their abilities responsibly. Please avoid god modding at all costs!
